FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How do I become a member?
A: You can Join Online, or simply fill out a membership form and enclose it with your dues in an envelope labeled “PTA Membership”. Return the envelope to the Vessels Elementary School office. If mailing, address the envelope to “Vessels PTA, 5900 Cathy Ave. Cypress, CA 90630”. There should be a membership form in your back-to-school packet. You can also find one here. PTA Membership Form
Q: What are the benefits of being a PTA member?
A: As a member of Vessels PTA, you are part of a national organization (National PTA). “National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. A not-for-profit association of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities, PTA is a leader in reminding our nation of its obligations to children”. In other words, you help put children first. Also, as a member of Vessels PTA, you are entitled to voting privileges at any general membership meeting.
Q: What is with all the fundraising?
A: PTA is not a fundraising organization. It is not our goal to collect as much money as we can. To the contrary, PTA aims to raise just enough to cover the programs we provide. By becoming a member of the PTA, you have a say in what those programs are, and how much is spent on them.
Q: Where does PTA’s money go?
A: Just to be clear, PTA doesn’t really have its own money. We simply raise money when it’s needed to cover the events and programs we provide. Did you know that PTA helps fund all the school field trips our students attend? We also provide assemblies, family fun nights, enrichment activities, monthly home reading club forms and free books. Check out our upcoming events page to see what we’re working on now.
Q: Is the PTA open to anyone?
A: Absolutely! We welcome participation from any adult who wants to join – parents, teachers, grandparents, mentors, caregivers, community leaders and anyone else who cares about our children. Please don’t be intimidated. Contact us, come to a meeting, get involved. We really do want to see new faces like yours.
Q: I have ideas about how PTA could run better. What do I do?
A: Join the PTA. Get involved. We are open to new ideas and people to put those ideas into action. Please come to our meetings and help us make things even better.
